Saudi authorities on Thursday announced arrest of a citizen who attacked with a "sharp tool" a security guard at the French Consulate in Jeddah.

Muhammad al-Ghamdi, the media spokesman for the Makkah al-Mukarramah police, said the Special Force for Diplomatic Security arrested a citizen in his 40s, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.

"The citizen attacked with a sharp object a security guard at the French consulate resulted in slight injury of the latter, and he was subsequently transferred to the hospital for treatment," al-Ghamdi added.

"Legal measures will be taken against the assailant," he added, without disclosing further details.
