ISTANBUL
A Russian citizen was killed in a shark attack in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Hurghada, Russia's Consulate General in the city said.
"To the attention of Russian citizens in Hurghada! On June 8, a Russian was killed as a result of a shark attack in the Dream Beach area," the consulate said in a statement on Telegram.
It called on Russian citizens to "remain vigilant" when in the water, and follow bans on swimming and diving implemented by Egyptian authorities.
Viktor Voropaev, Russia's consul general in Hurghada, told state news agency TASS that the person killed was not a tourist, and resided permanently in Egypt.
