Four people, including a Revolutionary Guards officer were killed during clashes between border forces and gunmen attempting to infiltrate the northwestern Iranian border on Thursday night, according to an Iranian media outlet on Friday.

In a statement, the Revolutionary Guards said its ground forces allegedly confronted a number of gunmen who tried to infiltrate the country through Western Azerbaijan province, Fars News agency reported quoting the elite military unit.

The clash resulted in "the killing of three terrorists, wounding of four others, arrest of one, while the rest fled,” it said.

Revolutionary Guards’ Maj. Yasin Ghanbari was among those killed while another officer was injured, it added.
