Qatar intercepts drones, cruise missiles launched from Iran
Gulf state says no casualties or damage reported after attack
ISTANBUL
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said Sunday that its forces intercepted drones and two cruise missiles launched from Iran.
In a statement, the ministry said “the State of Qatar was subjected today, Sunday, to an attack involving a number of drones and (2) cruise missiles launched from Iran.”
It added that the Qatari Armed Forces “successfully” intercepted all drones and both cruise missiles.
No injuries or damage were reported following the attack.
Hostilities in the region have escalated since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing over 1,340 people to date, including the then-supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. Iran has also restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
