Paramilitary RSF claims questioning commander accused of killing hundreds in Sudan’s El-Fasher
Abu Lulu accused of callously executing more than 2,000 civilians in western city of El-Fasher
ISTANBUL
The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) claimed Saturday that it had completed the initial questioning and investigation of a commander accused of killing hundreds of civilians in the city of El-Fasher in western Sudan.
In a statement, the RSF said an inquiry commission into human rights violations in El-Fasher interrogated Abu Lulu, adding that it will uncover the full facts to the public and submit a final report to judicial authorities “as soon as the other stages of investigation are completed.”
Abu Lulu, whose true name is Al-Fateh Abdullah Idris, appeared in several videos on social media while gunning down civilians at point-blank range in the capital of North Darfur state, which the rebel group captured late last month.
In the latest atrocities committed in El-Fasher, he bragged about killing thousands and documenting mass killings of civilians, which he admitted to on live.
“I wanted to kill 2,000, but I'm sure the number exceeded 2,000, but I got confused about the calculation,” Abu Lulu said in a TikTok live stream.
“I lost track of it, but I will do it again starting from zero,” he bragged, as other RSF militants appeared laughing with him.
His words drew global outrage, and the TikTok account was banned by the platform due to violations of the community’s guidelines.
Since April 15, 2023, the Sudanese army and the RSF have been locked in a war that regional and international mediations have failed to end. The conflict has killed thousands of people and displaced millions of others.
