Pakistan on Thursday expressed “serious concern” over recent attacks targeting Türkiye and Azerbaijan, warning that the incidents risk further escalation in the region.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the attacks on the two “brotherly countries” violated international law and the principles of inter-state relations.

Islamabad reaffirmed its solidarity with both the nations and called for “restraint” and “diplomacy to maintain regional peace.”

In separate messages, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also raised concern over the recent attacks.

“I join the people of Pakistan in expressing complete solidarity with our brave Turkish brothers and sisters, at this challenging time,” he said.

Saying that such attacks risk further escalation, he called for “maximum restraint” and stressed the need for comprehensive dialogue.

As for Azerbaijan, he said Pakistan stands firmly with the leadership and the people of the “brotherly country” and “condemns such deplorable actions that risk further escalation and undermine regional peace and stability.”

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also spoke with Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov to discuss the situation.

According to the ministry, the two leaders expressed concern over escalating regional tensions and the drone attacks targeting Azerbaijan, stressing the need for de-escalation through diplomacy.

Both sides agreed to remain in close contact as developments unfold.

Earlier on Thursday, Azerbaijani authorities said drones launched from Iran struck the autonomous exclave of Nakhchivan, injuring four people and damaging infrastructure.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said one drone hit the terminal building at Nakhchivan International Airport while another fell near a school in the village of Shakarabad.

Tensions in the Middle East are high as Israel and the US continue large-scale strikes on Iran for the sixth day.

Iranian authorities say at least 926 people have been killed in the attacks, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, several senior military officials, and dozens of school girls.

Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.

The regional tensions have also spilled into NATO territory.

On Wednesday, a ballistic munition launched from Iran and tracked toward Turkish airspace was intercepted by NATO air and missile defense systems in the Eastern Mediterranean, according to the Turkish National Defense Ministry.
