Oman decries attack on Turkish diplomat in Erbil, Iraq

MUSCAT, Oman 

The Sultanate of Oman on Thursday strongly condemned the armed attack that martyred a Turkish diplomat in Erbil, a city of the Iraqi Kurdish region.

The Omani Foreign Ministry said on Twitter: "We send sincere condolences to the friendly country of Turkey and brotherly country of Iraq" over the attack.

On Wednesday, a Turkish diplomat, who was serving at Turkey's Consulate General in Erbil, was martyred in an armed attack at a restaurant, the Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement.

Apart from the Turkish diplomat martyred, one Iraqi national sitting at the next table was killed, while another was seriously wounded.

Speaking to reporters in the capital Ankara on Wednesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said three attackers were involved in the incident.

Cavusoglu said Turkey was in contact with Baghdad and Erbil regarding the incident, adding that efforts were ongoing to capture the attackers and reveal all details behind the attack.
