Libyan Red Crescent says 3 bodies found off country’s western coast

TRIPOLI, Libya

The Libyan Red Crescent announced Thursday that three bodies were discovered off the coast of the western city of Sabratha.

Its Sabratha branch said Red Crescent teams received a report from police saying the bodies had washed up on the shore.

The statement noted that the bodies were transferred to the Sabratha Hospital morgue.

It did not provide information about the victims’ identities or their nationalities.

Libya’s Interior Ministry announced on March 29 that 130 irregular migrants on a boat making a distress call were rescued off the eastern coast of the capital Tripoli.

Libya is seen as a departure point for irregular migrants attempting to reach Europe via illegal routes across the Mediterranean.
