AMMAN, Jordan

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi held talks with European officials in Brussels on Wednesday to discuss regional developments and his country’s partnership with the European Union.

The top diplomat arrived in Brussels early Wednesday on an official visit to discuss bilateral relations with the EU and developments in the Middle East region.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said Safadi discussed with European Council President António Costa ways of boosting ties between Jordan and the EU.

The talks also covered regional developments and efforts to upgrade the level of relations between the two sides to a comprehensive strategic partnership, the ministry added in a statement.

Safadi also met with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas to discuss relations between the two sides and regional developments, the ministry said.

Safadi’s visit to Brussels came amid accelerating developments in the Middle East following last month’s fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria and Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, which has killed almost 46,000 people, mostly women and children, since Oct. 7, 2023.
