Israeli forces shelled the northern Gaza Strip early Tuesday after allegedly coming under fire from the blockaded Palestinian territory.
The Israeli military said in a statement its forces came under fire across the border with the Gaza Strip.
“In response, the IDF [army] targeted two Hamas posts,” the statement said.
According to Palestinian eyewitnesses, five shots fired by Israeli tanks along the border struck two Hamas buildings in Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip.
No injuries were reported.
In late 2014, Israel launched a 51-day onslaught on the seaside territory on claims of undermining the capability of Palestinian factions to fire rockets into Israel.
At least 2,322 Palestinians were killed and around 11,000 injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
