JERUSALEM / ISTANBUL

Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir on Thursday signaled the possibility of launching another attack on Iran, a day after a visit by Ali Larijani, the head of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, to Lebanon.

According to Army Radio, Zamir said in a speech at a military ceremony at the Glilot base in central Israel that Tel Aviv is ready to repeat its strike on Iran if necessary.

On June 13, Israel, backed by the US, launched a 12-day war on Iran. Tehran responded with ballistic missile and drone attacks before Washington announced a ceasefire on June 24.

Zamir said the army had targeted Iran and its allied “axis” - referring to Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthis - and is prepared to strike again whenever needed.

He described the recent conflict with Iran as a “preemptive war” aimed at removing what he claimed was an “escalating existential threat before it became a concrete danger.”

He also alleged that Iran had been on a dangerous path of escalation on multiple fronts and had developed a doctrine centered on Israel’s destruction.

“We are ready to pay a heavy price to ensure our survival,” Zamir said.

Coinciding with Larijani’s visit to Beirut on Wednesday, Zamir toured occupied areas in southern Lebanon.

In recent weeks, Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Israel Katz and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, have also raised the prospect of another attack on Iran.
