Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman on Tuesday said the Israeli army was ready for “any scenario” in Syria, according to Israeli state radio.
During a visit to the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights region, Lieberman said Israel was “closely monitoring” developments in its war-torn neighbor.
“The Syrian army isn’t satisfied with simply reassuming control over all Syrian territory,” he said. “It is clearly building a new and improved land army.”
In recent weeks, Israeli officials have called for Syria to re-commit to a disengagement agreement that was signed following the 1973 Arab-Israeli War.
Israel has also voiced its rejection of any long-term Iranian military presence in neighboring Syria.
