Iraq denies corruption probe against UK envoy
Media reports said Iraqi ambassador in London was questioned by UK police for financial corruption
BAGHDAD
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Wednesday denied reports that UK police had questioned its ambassador in London over financial corruption.
Media reports said that Iraqi envoy in London Saleh al-Tamimi was questioned by UK police after a large amount of cash was found in the embassy.
In a statement, ministry spokesman Ahmed Mahjoub described the reports as “fabrications that aim to tarnish Iraq’s reputation and undermine its diplomatic successes”.
"This news is completely unfounded and the ministry reserves the right to take all legal measures against these [media] websites,” the spokesman said.
