Iran's top diplomat not participating in Davos
Javad Zarif cancels participation after organizers make changes to his schedule
TEHRAN
Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has canceled his participation in the World Economic Forum's annual gathering slated for Jan. 21 in Davos, Switzerland.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi said in a Monday statement that the move was due to the forum's organizers making changes to Zarif's schedule.
He added that Zarif had received an official invitation to participate in the forum, pointing out that he had made all preparations for his participation in the forum.
Since 1971, Davos summits have been a mirror of major world events of their time -- from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the rise of economic globalization and runaway climate change.
