ERBIL, Iraq

Iranian forces targeted areas near the northern Iraqi city of Erbil in artillery strikes on Wednesday, an Iraqi official said.

Iranian strikes hit rural areas north of Erbil near the Iraqi-Iranian border, said Ihsan Chalabi, a senior official in the region’s Sidekan area.

No loss of life has so far been reported, the official added.

Iran sporadically shells the region, citing the presence of militants of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), a designated terrorist organization.
