The death toll from the ongoing US-Israeli attacks on Iran has risen to 867, Iranian Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour said Wednesday.

"Of the 5,946 injured, 2,184 are still receiving treatment in various hospitals," Kermanpour said in statements carried by the Iranian Labour News Agency.

Regional tensions have escalated when the US and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Saturday. The attacks also killed top Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as Gulf countries which are home to US assets.
