Iranian Foreign Minister on Saturday argued that the EU countries couldn't dare to take a stand against the U.S. and establish their stance in the international system.

Javad Zarif spoke to an Iranian daily and commented on the nuclear deal and the EU countries' attitude towards Washington.

Iran's top diplomat expressed that the U.S. and western countries were not to be trusted over fulfilling economic promises.

"The U.S. has already proved that it doesn't keep promises, the Europeans indicated that they weren't able to take a stance against the U.S.," Zarif said.

Zarif responded positively to INSTEX (Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges) founded by the Europeans despite it was "late".

"The situation that has emerged since the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear agreement is a strategic loss for the EU. Because they haven't proved that they have a stance in the international system. This is a crucial subject," he asserted.

Zarif said that the U.S. wasn't competent to conduct negotiations, adding that one president could wholly ignore the decisions taken by another one, referring to the former President Barack Obama and Donald Trump, the current President of the U.S.

He went on to say that Tehran managed to protect its nuclear program and gains while isolating Washington in the global arena.

"The main reason for the disagreement between the U.S. and Iran is that this country [Iran] is independent," he added.
