ISTANBUL

Iran has executed a man accused of spying for Israel, according to a statement from Iranian judicial authorities published by the Fars News Agency on Wednesday.

The death sentence handed down to Kurosh Keyvani, who was alleged to have ties to Israel’s foreign intelligence service, Mossad, was carried out, the statement said.

Keyvani’s death sentence, following the completion of his trial for allegedly transmitting images and information regarding strategic locations to Mossad, had been approved by the Supreme Court, the statement said.

Keyvani was arrested on the fourth day of a 12-day war that broke out in June last year, when the US and Israel attacked Iran.

In Iran, amid recent US-Israeli attacks, dozens of people alleged to have ties to Israel have been arrested.

Iranian officials have said that strict measures against activities threatening national security will continue.

The development comes amid ongoing joint offensive operations by Israel and the US against Iran since Feb. 28, which have killed around 1,300 people so far, including former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
