Haniyeh arrived in Rabat on Wednesday for his first visit to Morocco
ISTANBUL
Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh has hailed Moroccan efforts to support the Palestinian cause, according to the Palestinian group on Saturday.
Hamas said in a statement that Haniyeh met on Friday with a group of representatives of Moroccan NGOs.
During the meeting, Haniyeh expressed his appreciation for the Moroccan support to the Palestinian issue at all levels, the statement said.
On Friday, Moroccan King Mohammed VI hosted a dinner banquet for the Hamas leader on the occasion of his visit to the kingdom.
Haniyeh arrived in Rabat on Wednesday for his first visit to the North African country upon an invitation by the ruling Justice and Development party.
The visit comes a few months after Morocco normalized relations with Israel in 2020, following the suit of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan.
