Gunmen assassinate Haftar militia commander in East Libya
Mahmoud Al-Werfalli, wanted by International Criminal Court, killed in city of Benghazi

ANKARA
Gunmen assassinated Wednesday a commander of the Haftar militia in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, local media reported.
A spokesman for the special forces of Haftar militia in a tweet confirmed the death of Mahmoud Al-Werfalli, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Al-Warfali is alleged to have directly committed and to have ordered the commission of murders as war crimes in Benghazi or surrounding areas, according to the ICC.
He is also accused of carrying out mass executions against unarmed detainees in Benghazi.
In December 2019, the US Treasury included Al-Warfali on its sanctions list, accusing him of committing serious human rights violations.
