Gaza Tribunal receives reports as evidence documenting Israeli atrocities
Over 700 days of documentation, over 250 reported crimes against journalists presented, as experts call for accountability over war crimes in Gaza
ISTANBUL
International jurists, human rights organizations, and media platforms presented extensive evidence of Israeli crimes in Gaza as reports to the Gaza Tribunal during the ongoing final session on “Complicity, International System, Resistance, and Solidarity.”
The four-day public tribunal, held at Istanbul University from Thursday to Sunday, gathers testimonies from survivors, journalists, and legal experts to document human rights violations in the Gaza Strip.
Representatives from Witness Eye, a media platform created by journalists to digitally archive testimonies from those living under conflict, emphasized the importance of preserving these records.
A Witness Eye spokesperson said: "Witness Eye is a platform… established by media professionals in order to make a digital archive of the testimonies, statements of the people who are really, at the moment, living under the shadow of a genocide, and is also trying to amplify the voices of the people who are showing solidarity and sharing the Palestinian cause.
"Over the past two years, Witness Eye has collected testimonies and evidence, digital video evidence from over 100 people. And at the moment, it's a privilege and honor for me to hand over these pieces of evidence that are showing the genocide, especially from the people who are living in Gaza."
Also, a representative of MAZLUMDER, the Association for Human Rights and Solidarity for the Oppressed, highlighted the role of eyewitness accounts in documenting the crisis.
"We have watched everything on television. But you are just registering for the history. So we are the eyewitnesses. That's why I'm presenting my reports to Mr. Richard and Steve June," its spokesperson stated.
- 'Committing crimes against all of humanity'
The International Jurists Union also presented 13 detailed reports compiled over more than 700 days, documenting crimes against civilians, journalists, and institutions in Gaza.
"We have more than 250 crimes committed by the occupation against journalists. And we have all the details. There are also reports about the crimes committed by the occupation against civilians," spokespersons said.
"And there is also a report about the land occupied by the occupation, which was a part of the war of extermination, so that people and children would not find any food in Gaza. We have a report about the arrests and crimes committed by the occupation against the dead… We also have a report about the only hospital in the Gaza Strip where cancer patients receive treatment."
They stressed the international responsibility for accountability, declaring: "They are raping people. They are committing war crimes. They are occupying people. They are committing crimes against all of humanity. This is the responsibility of all of humanity."
- Gaza Tribunal
The four-day public session at Istanbul University from Thursday to Sunday marks the culmination of a year-long effort by international jurists, scholars and civil society figures to document Israel's crimes committed against Palestinians.
Saturday's sessions of the tribunal focused on complicity, international systems, resistance, and solidarity.
Presided over by Richard Falk, former UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, the tribunal aims to produce a comprehensive “people’s record” of what participants describe as genocide, apartheid and systemic violations of international law in Gaza.
The tribunal’s jury of conscience includes Kenize Mourad, Christine Chinkin, Chandra Muzaffar, Ghada Karmi, Sami Al-Arian and Biljana Vankovska.
Its panel of jurists and observers is expected to issue a final opinion on Sunday, summarizing findings on genocide, apartheid, and systemic violations in Gaza.
