SANAA, Yemen

The Yemeni army announced on Saturday evening that its forces engaged in clashes with Houthi fighters across three provinces in Yemen over the past 24 hours.

According to the Defense Ministry's September Net website, the clashes erupted in the past 24 hours "following assaults by the Houthis on the army's positions in the provinces" of Marib in central Yemen, Al-Jawf in northern Yemen, and Taiz in southwestern Yemen.

The statement claimed to have inflicted heavy human and material losses on the Houthi rebels after they attempted to advance along the frontlines in the three provinces.

The Houthi group is yet to comment on the statement.

On Thursday, UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg called for national and regional de-escalation to pave the way for sustainable peace and stability across Yemen.

Yemen has seen a relative state of calm since April 2022 following a truce that halted hostilities between Yemeni government forces and the Houthi group that erupted in September 2014 when the Iran-aligned group seized the capital Sanaa.
