Bahraini authorities on Saturday accused "terrorists" of hacking the Twitter account of the country’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa.

Hackers have published some sectarian postings on the top diplomat's account along with pictures and videos attacking Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The hackers said, in one of the postings, that they belong to Al-Mukhtar Brigades, which is classified by Manama as a terrorist organization.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the account had been hacked by a "terrorist entity".

“The hacking was carried out by a terrorist organization that forged postings and attributed them to the Minister of Foreign Affairs," the statement read.

The ministry said it was working to restore the minister's account and vowed to bring those responsible for the hacking to accountability.
