8 injured, mostly children, in RSF drone attack on Sudan’s Khartoum

Eight people, most of them children, were injured Thursday in a drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on an area in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, local authorities said.

In a statement, Khartoum state authorities said acting Governor Ahmed Al-Mustafa Ali visited the injured at the government-run Al-Naw Hospital following the morning attack on the Al-Fath area west of Omdurman.

“The number of injured reached eight, most of them children, who are receiving treatment at the hospital,” the statement said.

Al-Mustafa condemned what he described as the RSF’s targeting of unarmed civilians.

Earlier Thursday, Sudanese army air defenses responded to a drone attack targeting the capital Khartoum, eyewitnesses told Anadolu.

Sudanese authorities and rights groups have repeatedly accused the RSF of targeting civilian facilities. The paramilitary group generally does not comment on such accusations and says it works to protect civilians.

On Aug. 24, the UN said 1,100 civilians were killed in drone attacks across Sudan between January and June this year.

The RSF and Sudanese army have been fighting since April 2023 over disagreements about the integration of the paramilitary force into the military, triggering one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with tens of thousands killed and around 13 million displaced.
