3 Syrian security personnel killed in clash with ISIS-linked group in Daraa

Three members of Syria’s Internal Security Forces were killed and others injured Thursday during an operation against an ISIS (Daesh) terror group in the southern province of Daraa, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

The Internal Security Forces said the incident occurred in the city of Al-Sanamayn, where an armed group led by a wanted man attacked a security patrol and clashed with its members while they were carrying out the arrest operation.

The Internal Security Forces said the armed group was affiliated with the ISIS terrorist organization.

They said security units had surrounded the group and given its members time to surrender, but after they failed to respond, forces began raiding the site where they were holed up.

Security forces continued deploying across the city and pursuing members of the group and others involved in the attack, the statement said.

The Internal Security Command in Daraa imposed a temporary curfew in Al-Sanamayn until the security situation stabilizes.

The Internal Security Forces said they would continue pursuing all those involved in the attack and take legal measures against them.

Since the fall of Bashar Assad’s regime on Dec. 8, 2024, Syrian authorities have sought to restore security and establish state control over weapons by pursuing wanted individuals and carrying out security campaigns against armed groups in various parts of the country.

The efforts come amid continuing challenges in stabilizing the security situation and preventing attacks on civilians and security personnel.
