1 killed, 3 injured in rocket attack from Lebanon on northern Israel
Power outages reported in Nahariya, building damaged, says Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper
ISTANBUL
One person was killed and three injured in a direct hit in the northern Israeli city of Nahariya following a barrage from Lebanon, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported Thursday.
Another person is in serious condition, and two others were lightly wounded, according to the newspaper, citing Israel’s emergency service Magen David Adom.
It reported power outages in parts of the city, in addition to damage to a building and a fire that broke out at the site.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that rockets fell at three sites in Nahariya following the barrage.
The Lebanese group Hezbollah announced earlier that it carried out 40 attacks using rockets and drones against Israeli forces, vehicles and positions, including the Defense Ministry headquarters and the Northern Command headquarters of the army.
Israel has pounded Lebanon with airstrikes and launched a ground offensive in southern Lebanon since a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2.
Lebanese authorities said at least 1,094 people have since been killed and 3,119 injured in Israeli attacks.
The escalation came amid a joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran, which has killed more than 1,340 people since Feb. 28. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, US bases and Gulf countries.
