ISTANBUL

One person was killed and four others were injured after debris fell from a successful missile interception at gas facilities in the United Arab Emirates, the government said.

One Egyptian national lost his life and four individuals – two from Pakistan and two from Egypt – sustained minor injuries during evacuation of the Habshan site in the southwestern UAE after two fires broke out, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said on US social media platform X.

Emergency response teams acted swiftly to bring the situation under control, it added.

The facilities suffered significant damage and an assessment is ongoing.

Earlier, authorities in Abu Dhabi suspended operations at the Habshan gas facilities after debris from an intercepted missile struck the site, the media office said.

The region has been on alert since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people to date, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
