1 killed after debris from drone interception falls in Fujairah, UAE: Officials

ISTANBUL

Debris from an intercepted drone on Wednesday killed one person after falling on a farm in the UAE's Fujairah emirate on the east coast, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred in the Al Rifaa area after air defenses successfully intercepted the drone, resulting in falling shrapnel, the Fujairah government’s media office said through US social media company X.

The victim was identified as a Bangladeshi national, it added.

Authorities said specialized teams responded to the scene and handled the incident.

Tensions in the region have escalated since Israel and the US launched a joint offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, resulting in more than 1,340 deaths, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage, while disrupting global markets and aviation.
