Verstappen wins Canadian Grand Prix at Formula 1 2022

Dutch driver Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing on Sunday won the Canadian Grand Prix with 1:36:21.757 time at 2022 Formula One World Championship.

The reigning champion, who got his sixth GP victory this season, completed the competition with Sainz until the finish line, saying: "The Safety Car didn't help, overall (Ferrari) were very quick. Following is tricky around here but I could see him pushing, charging, pushing, charging. The last few laps were very fun."

Carlos Sainz of Ferrari, who picked off Alpine driver Fernando Alonso early on, finished with a close second with +0.993s, while Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton placed third with +7.006s in the Round 9 race of the season.

Sainz, who got points for the fastest lap, said: "I tried everything guys," about chasing Verstappen close until the very end.

Sergio Perez of Red Bull Racing had to quit the race on Lap 8, due to a gearbox issue. Some mechanical issues also pulled Haas driver Schumacher out of the race on Lap 20.

Verstappen leads the driver standings with 175 points, while his teammate Sergio Perez lays second with 129 points and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc placed third with 126 points.

In the constructor standings, Red Bull Racing lay at top with 304 points, while Ferrari placed second with 228 points and Mercedes third with 188 points.

The Round 10 race, Lenovo British Grand Prix, will be held at Silverstone Circuit in Great Britain on July 1-3.
