US stocks end with gains as Nasdaq, S&P hit record highs

ISTANBUL

US stocks ended higher Thursday following the release of positive jobless figures, with the Nasdaq and S&P hitting record highs.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.43%, or 192.34 points, to close at 44,650.64.

The Nasdaq Composite inched up 0.09%, or 19.33 points, to 20,630.66, and the S&P 500 rose 0.27%, or 17.20 points, to 6,280.46.

The VIX Index, also known as the “fear index," fell 1.00% to 15.78.

The number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims fell by 5,000 to 227,000 last week, according to Labor Department data released Thursday.

The figure came below market forecasts of 236,000 and was down from the previous week's revised level of 232,000.
