US stock market closes Monday with losses
VIX volatility index jumps 6% at 19.43

ISTANBUL
US stock market closed lower on Monday.
The Dow Jones was down almost 35 points, or 0.1%, to end the day at 33,891. The S&P 500 fell 25 points, or 0.61%, to 4,111.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq decreased 119 points, or 0.1%, to finish at 11,887.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 6% at 19.43, while the 10-year US Treasury yield rose 3.3% to 3.649%.
The dollar index added 0.7% to 103.61, while the euro lost 0.7% to $1.0727 against the greenback.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold increasing 0.1% to $1,867 per ounce but silver trimming 0.4% to $22.26.
Crude oil prices were up more than 1.4%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $81.34 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $74.43.
