ISTANBUL

Türkiye's benchmark stock index opened higher on Tuesday, the first transaction day of 2024, at 7,542.25 points, up 0.96%, or 72.07 points, from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index closed 2023 on Friday at 7,470.18 points, up 1%, with a daily trading volume of 72 billion Turkish liras ($2.45 billion).

The US dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 29.6885 as of 10.15 a.m. local time (0715GMT), the euro/lira exchange rate stood at 32.7710, and a British pound traded for 37.8120 Turkish liras.

Brent crude oil was selling for around $78.50 per barrel, while the price of an ounce of gold was $2,084.20.
