Saudi, UAE foreign ministers discuss latest regional developments amid Iranian attacks
Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan hold phone call, discuss 'ways to strengthen the security and stability of the region'
ISTANBUL
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his United Arab Emirates counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed the latest regional developments amid Iranian attacks, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
"During the call, they discussed the latest developments in the region in light of the continued unjustified Iranian attacks against the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries and ways to strengthen the security and stability of the region," the ministry said in a statement on the US social media company X’s platform.
The UAE Foreign Ministry said Sheikh Abdullah "held a series of calls" with various counterparts, including Prince Faisal, to discuss the "repercussions" of the Iranian attacks.
"H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the officials strongly condemned" the attacks, the ministry wrote on X, saying they "constitute a flagrant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations and pose a direct threat to the security and sovereignty of states, as well as regional stability."
The calls also emphasized the importance of enhancing international cooperation and joint efforts to maintain regional security and stability while supporting "the aspirations of the region’s peoples for inclusive development and sustainable economic prosperity," it added.
Since Israel and the US launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, killing some 1,300 people so far, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, hostilities have escalated.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
