Russians lose Internet connection as major providers are down
Center responsible for ensuring internet development in Russia says problems connected to add-on designed to enhance security

MOSCOW
Russian internet users disconnected from the global network Tuesday as major providers were knocked out.
The Russian Coordination Center of .RU/RF domains, an organization responsible for ensuring internet development in Russia, said the malfunction occurred due to technical problems with the global infrastructure of the domain name system add-on designed to enhance security -- Domain name system security extensions (DNSSEC).
Specialists are working to solve the malfunction and partial internet connection was restored, it said.
The users of Russia's biggest internet providers, including MTS, Megafon and Rostelecom could not go online because of the malfunction.
Even IT giant Russian search engine, Yandex, and major marketplaces Avito, Ozo and Wildberries were knocked off the network although they have their own IT infrastructure for the uninterrupted operation of platforms.
