Some 85% of all power plants installed worldwide last year were in the renewable energy field, the head of the International Energy Agency said on Tuesday.

Sending a video message to the Türkiye-China Business Conference, held jointly by Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD) and Türkiye's Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK) in Istanbul, Fatih Birol said that there is rapid growth in the field of renewable energy globally.

He stressed that one out of every five car sales is electric vehicle currently.

He added that climate actions and countries’ target to be independent in the energy field are main reasons for the rapid growth.

Touching on China's position, Birol said the country is the global leader in clean energy technologies, including wind, solar, and nuclear.

Some 80% of solar panels and 70% of wind turbines are produced in China, which also manufactures one of each two electric vehicles globally.
