Pakistan tests indigenously developed cruise missile
Taimoor Weapon System capable of engaging enemy land, sea targets with high precision at range of 600 kilometers, carrying conventional warhead, military says
ISLAMABAD
Pakistan on Saturday said it successfully conducted the flight test of the indigenously developed Taimoor cruise missile weapon system, calling it a milestone in "advancement of national aerospace and defence capabilities."
The military said in a statement that the Taimoor air-launched cruise missile is "capable of engaging enemy land and sea targets with high precision at a range of 600 kilometers (372.8 miles), carrying a conventional warhead."
"Equipped with state-of-the-art navigation and guidance system, Taimoor is designed to fly at very low altitudes, enabling it to effectively evade hostile air and missile defence systems."
The missile's "precision-strike capability" enhances the "conventional deterrence and operational flexibility of Pakistan Air Force," the statement added.
The launch was witnessed by senior officers of Pakistan's armed forces, scientists and engineers.
