Kuwait said Sunday that its air defenses intercepted three of seven ballistic missiles detected over the country after “hostile” aerial targets breached its airspace.

In a statement, Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan said four other missiles were outside the threat range and did not pose a danger and therefore were not engaged.

Air defenses also detected five drones, destroying two of them, while three others were not intercepted, he added.

Two drones struck the perimeter of Kuwait International Airport, causing fuel tank explosions, while another hit the Public Institution for Social Security building in Kuwait City, resulting in material damage, according to the spokesman.

The Kuwaiti General Staff said explosions heard in several areas of the country were caused by air defense systems intercepting “hostile” aerial targets.
