Turkish professor awarded for efforts on communication
US-based Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers elevates Murat Uysal to 'Fellow' grade over renowned studies
ISTANBUL
A Turkish professor has been awarded by a New York-based international organization for his studies on communication theory and wireless communication, according to a Turkish university.
“Prof. Murat Uysal, Head of the Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering at Ozyegin University, has been elevated to 'Fellow' grade by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE),” Istanbul Ozyegin University said in a written statement on Thursday.
The IEEE is a non-profit international organization advancing innovation and technological excellence in the field of electrical and electronics engineering in over 160 countries with more than 423,000 members, according to the statement.
“IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership, and is recognized as a prestigious honor and a distinctive career achievement,” it added.
Uysal has over 3,000 conference proceedings and articles published in international journals in the fields of communication theory and wireless communication.
He received more than 9,500 citations to his publications, said the statement.
Serving as the head of IEEE Turkey, Uysal also has “Turkish Academy of Sciences Distinguished Young Scientist Award, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Discovery Accelerator Supplement Award, University of Waterloo Engineering Research Excellence Award, Ozyegin University Best Researcher Award, and National Instruments Engineering Impact Award among others.”
According to IEEE’s official website, the grade of Fellow recognizes unusual distinction in the profession and is conferred only by invitation of the Board of Directors upon a person with an extraordinary record of accomplishments in any of IEEE’s designated fields of interest.
