President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday stressed on the need for eco-friendly urbanism in Turkey.

Speaking at ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party’s training and consultation meeting held on World Urbanism Day, Erdogan said his government has planted millions of trees in Turkey.

Erdogan said the government has also developed many services in the past 16 years to improve the quality of life.

He said horizontal architecture instead of vertical architecture should be adopted in Turkey, adding that he instructed Minister of Environment and Urbanization, Murat Kurum, on the issue.

Erdogan said in a residential area amenities like schools, mosques and parks should be provided.

"This is Justice and Development Party's understanding of environmentalism, urbanism. We should show that," he added.
