LONDON
London's airspace has reopened to traffic after 1700GMT on Friday, after a computer failure at the U.K. control center had shut it down.
The failed system at the U.K. National Air Traffic Services center at Swanwick in Hampshire has been restored, however many passengers are facing delays due to the closure.
European flights have also been delayed by the shutdown.
"The system has been restored. It will take time for operations to fully recover. We apologize for any delays," the center said, in a statement.
The London skies are among the busiest in the world, as the city hosts five major airports.
There are numerous cancellations at Heathrow, London's largest airport. "Flights now departing and arriving. Please check your flight status before travelling to the airport," the airport said in a statement. Similar statements have been released by all of the city's airports.
