Turkiye reports over 77,400 daily coronavirus cases

ANKARA

Turkiye reported more than 77,400 coronavirus cases on Wednesday, according to official data.

The Health Ministry registered 77,434 new infections, 188 deaths, and 85,501 recoveries over the past day. Also, 416,536 virus tests were done in the last 24 hours.

To stem the spread of the virus, the country has also administered more than 141.25 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines since it launched an immunization drive in January 2021.

More than 57.37 million people have gotten the first jab, while over 52.31 million have received the second shot, the latest ministry data showed. Turkiye has also given third booster shots to 24.58 million people.

Since December 2019, the pandemic has claimed over 5.61 million lives in at least 192 countries and regions, with over 359 million cases reported worldwide, according to the US' Johns Hopkins University.
