Virus cases, casualties rise in Eurasia, Central Asia

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan

Health authorities in the Eurasian countries on Thursday reported new infections and fatalities related to the novel coronavirus.

Ukraine

Ukraine registered 7,053 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the caseload to 322,879, the health minister announced on Thursday.

Maxim Stepanov said the virus-linked death toll rose to 6,043 as 116 more people succumbed to the disease.

An addition of 2,679 patients also recovered, raising the tally to 134,898.

A total of 924 people, who contracted the virus, were taken to hospitals in the past day.

Armenia

Armenian Health Ministry reported 2,306 new cases, a new record in the country’s daily COVID-19 count, pushing the tally to 70,836.

The virus claimed 10 more lives in the country, raising the death toll to 1,131. So far, 49,787 people have recovered from the virus and 19,591 are currently being treated.

Georgia

Georgian Prime Ministry said in a statement that with 1,595 more cases, the country recorded its highest daily infections since the first case was recorded on Feb. 26.

The death toll reached 178 with six more fatalities, as the case count stands at 22,884.

Additionally, a total of 9,401 patients have beaten the virus with 398 new recoveries in the country, while 4,408 people are still under quarantine.

Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan's Health Ministry reported 547 more cases, pushing its total to 54,006.

The death toll has risen to 1,117 with four new fatalities, while the number of recoveries stands at 46,726 with 282 additions.

Also, the ministry said a total of 5,664 people are being treated at hospitals.

Uzbekistan

In a statement, the Health Ministry in Uzbekistan said 201 more people contracted the virus, taking the total number of cases to 64,335.

The death toll has risen to 538 with two additions.

The official data showed that another 163 people recovered from the disease, bringing the count to 61,423, which approximately translates to a 95% recovery rate.

Over 2,300 people are getting medical treatment in Uzbekistan.

Kazakhstan

The Health Ministry in Kazakhstan confirmed that the total number of cases rose to 109,907, with 141 additions over the past 24 hours.

While 84 more people have recovered from the disease, the total number of cases reached 105,385. The death toll rose to 1,806 with seven more people losing their lives in the past two days.

Worldwide

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed over 1.13 million lives in 189 countries and regions since it originated in China last December.

The US, India, Brazil, and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries in the world.

Over 41.24 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 28.12 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University.
