GAZA CITY
The number of Palestinians, mostly civilians, killed in Israeli attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip has risen to 1,951, a Palestinian Health Ministry official has said.
"Rescue teams have pulled more bodies from under the rubble of bombed-out homes and buildings," Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qodra told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday.
He said two people had also succumbed to injuries sustained in earlier Israeli strikes, bringing the total death toll to 1,951.
Al-Qodra said the victims include 469 children, 343 women and 88 elderly people.
"Around 10,193 other people have been wounded in the Israeli attacks," added the official.
He said the injured included 3,084 children, 1,970 women and 368 elderly Palestinians.
A three-day ceasefire brokered by Egypt expires by the end of Wednesday amid hopes that Palestinian and Israeli negotiators – now locked in indirect talks in the Egyptian capital Cairo – would reach a long-term arrangement.
