ANKARA
Algeria won against South Korea 4-2 in 2014 FIFA World Cup Group H match played at Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre, on Sunday, winning a likely berth in the knock-out stage.
Algerian forward Islam Slimani scored the opening goal by skipping two South Korean defenders Kim Younggwon and Hong Jeongho in the 26th minute, 1-0. Two minutes later Algeria doubled the score when their defender Rafik Halliche found the net with a header from a corner kick, 2-0.
Algeria could not be stopped by the Asian side as they increased the gap to three when 27-year-old forward Abdelmoumene Djabou put the ball in the back of the net by tapping it easily. The first half ended 3-0.
South Korea narrowed the gap to two after Son Heungmin found the net in the box in the 50th minute, 1-3. In the 62nd minute Algerian midfielder Yacine Brahimi made the score 4-1 but South Korea refused to go down without a fight. South Korean forward Koo Jacheol scored his team's second goal and this one determined the result.
Having scored the opening goal of the game, Algeria's Slimani has been elected as man of the match.
