Boris Johnson took part in his first Prime Minister's Questions session in parliament on Wednesday since surviving a no-confidence vote from his own party.

Johnson survived the vote on Monday, but 41% of his party's lawmakers voted against him in an outcome that significantly weakened his position.

In parliament on Wednesday, Johnson said he was "going to get on" with his job as prime minister, and create a "high wage, high-skilled jobs" economy for Britain.

Angela Eagle, a member of the main opposition, center-left Labour Party, said Johnson was "loathed" even within his own party.

Responding, Johnson said that over the course of his long political career he had "of course picked up political opponents all over."

He said this was because his government had done "big remarkable things" that some people disagreed with.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer seized on comments by Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries that Jeremy Hunt, the former health secretary and leadership rival to Johnson, had left the country "wanting and unprepared" for the pandemic. Dorries made her comments after Hunt said he would vote against Johnson.

Starmer also quoted a letter from Jesse Norman in which the former government minister accused Johnson's government of seeming "to lack a sense of mission."

Ian Blackford, the Scottish National Party's Westminster leader, said: "No amount of delusion and denial will save the prime minister from the truth, this story won't go away until he goes away."

"For once in his life, he needs to wake up to reality," Blackford said. "Prime minister, it's over. It's done."
