A British couple has been handed jail terms after they were found guilty of being members of a proscribed far-right terrorist group, local media reported.

Adam Thomas, 22, was jailed for six and a-half years, while Claudia Patatas, 38, for five, after being convicted of membership of National Action, a group banned in the country in December 2016.

The jury at Birmingham Crown Court, according to Sky News, heard that the couple had given their child the middle name “Adolf” in an “admiration” of the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler.

Photos shown at the court and published by Sky News, show the couple standing together next to a swastika flag. In another photo, Patatas could be seen holding her baby son while posing next to another Swastika flag.

Patatas, originally from Portugal, had told one member of National Action that “all Jews must be put to death” and that her husband, Thomas, has found all non-white people “intolerable.”

The couple were found guilty after a trial that lasted seven weeks.

The anti-Semitic and white supremacist group had celebrated the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox in June 2016 by Thomas Mair.

The group describes itself as a "National Socialist Youth Organization". However, then-Home Secretary Amber Rudd described it as “racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic.”

“It has absolutely no place in a Britain that works for everyone,” she added.
