The Turkish Red Crescent is seeking to establish an operation center in Georgia's capital Tbilisi to respond to a disaster in the southern Caucasus, head of the aid agency said on Wednesday.

Kerem Kinik, who is on a visit to Tbilisi, told Anadolu Agency the main purpose of his visit is to increase cooperation between the Georgia Red Cross Society and the Turkish Red Crescent.

Kinik also met Georgian Minister of Economy a Giorgi Kobulia and Georgia Red Cross Society head Natia Loladze.

"Especially, in order to respond to the disasters in the southern Caucasus, we are trying to build an operation center like we did in Bulgaria's capital Sofia," Kinik added.

The Turkish Red Crescent is the largest humanitarian organization in Turkey, with an international network to help other nations in need.

The non-profit and volunteer-based social service institution is providing unconditional aid and service, and is a corporate body governed by special legal provisions.

Disaster management, blood donations, healthcare, first aid, international aid and immigration and refugee services are among the agency’s activities.
