Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday congratulated over phone Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban on his election victory, said Turkiye's Communications Directorate.

Erdogan said he believes the election win will further enhance bilateral relations, and bring favorable outcomes for the Hungarian people.

Orban won Sunday's national elections, becoming the prime minister for the fourth time in a row.

Erdogan and Orban also discussed bilateral ties, as well as Russia's war on Ukraine, which began on Feb. 24.

The Turkish president stressed that it was in the common interest of the two countries to maintain the momentum achieved in the defense industry, and expand the scope of bilateral cooperation.

Erdogan informed Orban on Turkiye’s intensive diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace between Russia and Ukraine.
