LONDON
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Tuesday spoke with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan's King Abdullah II, discussing the immediate return to the ceasefire in Gaza.
During a phone call with al-Sisi and King Abdullah, Sanchez called for restoring the Gaza ceasefire deal immediately and returning to the negotiating table to achieve peace and stability in the region based on a two-state solution.
"We must end this tragic spiral of destruction and death," he wrote on X.
Nearly 800 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,600 others injured in renewed Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since March 18, shattering the ceasefire agreement that took hold in January.
More than 50,100 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and over 113,700 injured in a brutal Israeli military campaign in Gaza since October 2023.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
