Several people were reported dead after a school bus was hit by a train in the East Flanders province of Belgium on Tuesday, according to the daily HLN.
A source confirmed to HLN that there were several fatalities in the accident where a school bus was struck by a passenger train in the morning at a level crossing.
There were reportedly seven children on board the bus and two adults, including the driver.
Several emergency teams were deployed at the scene.
There were reportedly around 100 passengers on the train and all of them remained unharmed.
Rail network operator Infrabel noted that the lights at the level crossing were red and the barriers were down at the moment of the collision.
It noted that the precise circumstances of the accident are being investigated.
